Late summer: languid sunshine, little shivers, less salad. Actually, that last item isn’t strictly true. Salad meals are an all year thing in my house, it’s just the ingredients that change. Soon, there will be a riot of colours on the trees, and a dazzling array of fresh seasonal produce to reaquaint yourself with.
This time of year can be lovely for food shopping. Instead of simply relying on the fridge & fruit bowl to eat from I tend to gravitate to the larder, replenishing my store-cupboard with heavier items to fortify myself in cooler weather: mushrooms, nuts, seeds, oils, dried fruits, seaweeds, spices, miso. Since I always get asked about where I buy ingredients from, I thought I’d share a few of my regular online suppliers (all UK based).
In no particular order *:
Healthy supplies (not all raw but good range)
Goodness Direct (has a raw section)
Keimling, based in Germany but supplies to the UK
Source Foods for range of live unpasteurised miso’s & sea vegetables
Just seaweed.com Scottish supplier of seaweeds, plus marine beauty products
Sea veg, hand-picked & packed in Co. Donegal, Ireland
Tree-harvest for culinary herbs and spices (produce list not online, ask for catalogue)
Tiana for Fairtrade, organic, coconut products
Cultured probiotics for unpasteurised sauerkraut, veggies, and other raw items
* I have no association with the suppliers, and derive no profit from listing them.
